Blessing of the Backpacks

Backpack Blessing

Join us in collecting school supplies and helping to provide tutoring for a local elementary school.

At Holy Communion throughout the year we collect school supplies for our partners at Barbara Jordan Elementary School north of Olivette.

We make a particular drive for school supply donations in the late summer, as the school year approaches. See below for a list of suggestion supplies.

This year on August 12, we invite all students, administrators, teachers, bus-drivers etc. to come forward with their backpacks for a blessing.¬† Donated school supplies for Barbara Jordan Elementary School will be blessed as part of this special service. We’ll have special music, and a children’s sermon that Sunday. Stick around after the service to make your own “My Backpack Was Blessed” tag to carry with you through the school year.

If you would like more information about getting involved as a tutor at Barbara Jordan School many of our members volunteer through the OASIS tutoring program run by UCity School.¬†Contact Mary Allen if you’re interested in getting involved.

Welcome. Community. Diversity.

At Holy Communion, our mission and vision is built around the three values of welcome, community, and diversity. This service and donation drive is one way we seek to live out those commitments as a community of faith within a wider community.
