All Saints’ Day is a feast day in the Christian church, a time for remembrance, celebration, and the hope that we are not alone but are joined by a great cloud of witnesses.
Over the next weeks at Holy Communion, we will be decorating an altar in the church as we prepare to celebrate the Feast of All Saints and Dia De Los Muertos.
All are encouraged to drop off a photo or other memento of a loved one who has died on the altar, when they visit for a pilgrimage, or at other times in the basket located inside the door of our Jackson Ave entrance. Clergy and Staff will then place your items on the altar.
The exterior door on Jackson Ave is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Weekdays and from 7:00am to 1:00pm on Sundays.
You can also submit an image and a brief reflection to the church digitally. The image can be a photo of the person or a picture of something that reminds you of the person – a family heirloom, a gift from them, an item that holds special significance related to that person. Along with the image, you are invited to submit a brief story or reflection about why you sent that picture and who the person was to you. We will make a copy to place on the altar, and if we have your permission we may share the image as part of a virtual remembrance on social media.
Please note: your photo cannot be larger than 5MB, and please keep your reflection fewer than 100 words. Images and reflections must be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday October 28th at noon. Please let us know if you DO NOT want your image or story featured on church social media.
We’ll bless the “ofrenda” on All Saints Sunday, November 1 during the service.
