Blue Christmas

Join us December 23, 2018 at 10:30am for a special service with the blues.

The holidays are not easy for everyone. Some of us are mourning. Some are at a loss. Some just yearn to sing in a different key.

At Holy Communion, we recognize that for many the holidays are not a time where joy comes easily. This year, we will be offering our second annual Blue(s) Christmas service, we set aside this time to acknowledge the sadness and loss that many feel during the holidays. The blues music at this service doesn’t push for happiness, it understands the pain.

“Churches are the primary culprits for the schmaltzification of Christmas,” said The Rev. Mike Angell. “Calendars this time of year are full of parties and celebrations. Actually and metaphorically, it’s very sugary. This is a way to give people a space that doesn’t exist. A way to say: ‘We see you. We know what you’re going through. If you need to be tearful, you will not be looked at like you’re the Grinch.’”

We hope you can join us for a Blue(s) Christmas.

All are welcome.
