October 3, 2021 4pm Park Service Feast of St. Francis

Welcome! We are very happy to welcome you to our outdoor service.

A few “ground-rules” are important to help keep everyone safe.

Distancing: As much as we wish we could greet one another, out of love for our neighbor we have to stay distanced. Please maintain 6 or more feet from other households, unless you are “bubbling” together, or have had a conversation about vaccine status together outside of church.

Masks are not required if you have been vaccinated. For kids, the county recommends all unvaccinated children over age 2 be masked, but requires them for kids over 5.

Eucharist: Everyone is invite to receive. The ministers will come you with the host.

Singing: at this time we cannot sing safely as a group. You are welcome to quietly recite the words or hum along with the musician.

Donations: We welcome donations to support the work of Holy Communion, whether a payment on a pledge or simply an offering. A wooden box is available near the altar, if you would like to make a gift after the service.

The congregation is invited to say the words together in bold.

“Pray-ground” Prayer

The Rev. Julie Graham leads the children and congregation in this embodied prayer.

God made the sun,
and God made the trees,
God made the mountains,
and God made me.

Thank you God,
for the sun and the trees,
for making the mountains,
and for making me.
Amen

The Holy Gospel

Please stand.                                     Matthew 11:25-30

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew

Glory to you, Lord Christ.

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you've hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have shown them to babies. Indeed, Father, this brings you happiness.

“My Father has handed all things over to me. No one knows the Son except the Father. And nobody knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wants to reveal him.

"Come to me, all you who are struggling hard and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Put on my yoke, and learn from me. I'm gentle and humble. And you will find rest for yourselves. My yoke is easy to bear, and my burden is light."

After the Lesson the Gospel Reader says:

The Gospel of our Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Prayers of the People

adapted from the Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;

Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;

Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that we may

Not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;

To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

 The priest continues

Loving God, you created all things. We thank you for the gift of cats and dogs, birds and reptiles, rabbits and fish, and all the animals who share our homes. Amen.

We grieve the loss of the love and companionship our pets have given us. Comfort us as we remember them. Help their memory to stir us to deeper love and care for your creation. Amen.

We pray also for your created world in which we live, for its fragile resources, and for a will to conserve our earth. We pray for all who lead in the governments of the world. We pray for the Church in Missouri, for our companions in faith in El Salvador, and throughout our world. We pray for those who are sick, those who are suffering, and those who face violence. We pray for those who rejoice, and for those who mourn. Amen

The Peace

The Peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

Young people are invited to begin the exchange of the passing of the peace within their own households.
During the Exchange of the Peace young people are invited to hang their prayers on the line with the creation story cards.

Please do not approach people outside your household. A wave,  a peace sign, or a “smize” (a smile with your eyes) will do.

Eucharistic Prayer

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.

Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
    Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
    Hosanna in the highest.

Please remain standing.

On the night Jesus was betrayed, he took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it to his friends, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”

After supper, Jesus took the cup; gave thanks, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for all for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

And so, gracious God, we bring you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Merciful God, gather us by this Holy Communion into one body in your Christ. Make us a living sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving.
AMEN.

The Lord’s Prayer

Pray in the language you prefer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Breaking of the Bread

Alleluia. Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us;

Therefore let us keep the feast. Alleluia.

Administration of the Sacrament

All are invited to receive the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Gluten Free wafers are available, on request, from the minister. The ministers will come to where you are seated wearing a mask. Under the bishop’s order, wine is not available at this time. If you would prefer not to receive, simply cross your arms across your chest and the priest will give you a blessing.

Post Communion Prayer

God of abundance, you have fed us with the bread of life and cup of salvation; you have united us with Christ and one another; and you have made us one with all your people in heaven and on earth. Now send us forth in the power of your Spirit, that we may proclaim your redeeming love to the world and continue forever in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen.

Collect for Sept 11th  Remembrance

Gracious God, as we mark the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of 2001, help us also to remember that you are always the source of wisdom, justice, love and peace: Give us the light of your wisdom, the courage of your justice, the patience of your love and the assurance of your peace. Amen.
